Incredible Edible ou incroyables comestibles en français est une expérience communautaire qui consiste en la mise à disposition gratuite, dans de petits potagers disséminés dans les villes et les campagnes, de légumes cultivés par les volontaires participant au mouvement. Todmorden est connue pour être la première ville à avoir lancé l'initiative en 2008. Au départ de cette petite expérience d'autosuffisance alimentaire est donc né le mouvement qui prend une ampleur internationale

C’est de Todmorden, une petite ville du nord de l’Angleterre, qu’est parti le mouvement des "Incroyables Comestibles" (Incredible Edible) : En 2008, une poignée d’activistes envahit le bitume de bacs de plantations : sur les trottoirs, dans la cour du collège, devant l’hôtel de police, sur les parterres de l’hôpital…Aujourd’hui, chaque citoyen cultive un carré de terre, et offre aux passants sa récolte. L’espace public s’est changé en jardin potager, géant, gratuit. En moins de 3 ans, la ville est parvenue, avec ses 14.000 habitants, à atteindre 83 % d’autosuffisance alimentaire. Les habitants se sont reconnectés les uns avec les autres, et avec la terre. Ils ont tourné la page de la compétition et du repli sur soi, pour faire le choix de la coopération et de la bienveillance envers chacun.
